Our commitment

We want Northa to be usable by every student, regardless of ability. We are actively working toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance. This statement is honest about what works well today, what is still in progress, and what we are actively remediating.

What works today

  • Reduced-motion preference is respected — animations are disabled when the system setting is on.
  • Interactive buttons include aria-label attributes for icon-only controls.
  • Daylight and Midnight themes improve contrast options; theme preference is saved.
  • Skip-to-content links are present on several core pages.
  • Core student flows work with keyboard navigation (Tab, Enter, Escape).
  • Age and Terms of Service consent is required at registration and enforced client-side. A durable server-side consent record with policy version and timestamp is planned.
  • Text selection is permitted on all reflective content; suppressed only on tappable navigation chrome.

Known limitations

We have identified the following issues and are actively working to fix them:

  • !Some form labels on less-critical screens may still lack programmatic association. Core flows (register, login, onboarding) are fully labelled.
  • !Several text sizes below 12 px and some low-opacity muted text may not meet AA contrast thresholds on all backgrounds.
  • !Touch targets on some navigation items are below the recommended 44 × 44 px minimum.
  • !Scrollbars are globally hidden; this may reduce discoverability on some desktop configurations.
  • !Onboarding carousel pagination dots do not announce their current-slide state to assistive technology on all browsers.
  • !An independent WCAG 2.2 AA audit has not yet been completed. We do not claim full conformance.
  • !Northa is a web app — an active internet connection is required. Offline access is not planned; the product distributes as a native app.
  • !Screen reader testing with NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack is ongoing — not all flows have been formally verified.

What we're working on

  • Associating all form labels with their controls and adding visible focus rings throughout
  • Increasing minimum touch target sizes across navigation and interactive elements
  • Commissioning an independent WCAG 2.2 AA audit
  • Formally verifying keyboard and screen reader behavior across core student flows
  • Improving contrast on muted helper text and small labels
