These Terms of Service govern your use of Northa, a purpose and direction app for college and pre-college students. By using Northa you agree to them. If you are using Northa through a school or program, your institution's agreement with us also applies.

Who can use Northa

Age requirement

You must be 13 or older to create an account. By registering, you confirm you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you should obtain parental or guardian consent, particularly when accessing through a school program.

Agreeing to these terms

By using Northa, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you access Northa through an educational institution, your school's data processing agreement with us also applies.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. We will give you at least 14 days' notice of material changes via in-app notice or email before they take effect. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.

Your account

Accurate information

Provide accurate information when you register and keep it up to date. Accounts based on false information may be suspended.

Account security

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

One account per person

Each person may have one account. Do not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of others without their consent.

Acceptable use

What Northa is for

Northa is a personal purpose and direction tool for college and pre-college students. Use it to explore activities (experiments), write reflections, build clarity through your Compass, and connect with advisors or program facilitators.

What is not allowed

You may not: violate any law; infringe others' intellectual property or privacy; harass, bully, or harm other users; submit false or misleading information; attempt to access parts of the system you are not authorized to use; scrape or extract data in bulk; or use the service to represent yourself as someone else.

Content you create

Your reflections, purpose statements, experiment notes, and journal entries are your own. Keep them honest and appropriate — content that is discriminatory, violent, or explicit is not permitted and may result in account suspension.

Your content and our content

You own your reflections

You retain ownership of everything you write — purpose statements, journal entries, experiment reflections, and daily notes. By using Northa, you grant us a limited license to store and display your content solely to provide the service to you.

Northa's materials

The Northa app, experiment designs, prompts, AI-generated purpose statements, Compass architecture, and platform are owned by Northa or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute them.

Feedback

If you share ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve the product. We appreciate it, but we cannot commit to compensation or implementation.

Important limitations

Not professional advice

Northa is a self-guided exploration tool. It is not a substitute for professional career counseling, mental health support, or academic advising. AI-generated purpose statements, Nova suggestions, and Compass learnings are starting points for reflection, not professional recommendations or guarantees.

Service availability

We aim for high availability but cannot guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We are not liable for losses resulting from downtime.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Northa's total liability for any claim is limited to amounts you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim, or USD $100 if you paid nothing. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Ending your use

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Your data will be removed per our Privacy Policy within 30 days.

Suspension or termination by us

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, pose a security risk, or where required by an institutional agreement or law. We will notify you unless prohibited from doing so.

Effect of termination

Your right to use Northa ends immediately. Provisions on intellectual property, limitations of liability, and dispute resolution survive termination.

School and program partnerships

If your school or program deploys Northa under a formal agreement, that agreement (including any data processing addendum) takes precedence over these Terms on matters of data handling. The school is responsible for ensuring appropriate consent and authorizations from students and, where required, parents or guardians. Institutional staff (advisors, facilitators, admins) are bound by their own access controls and see only the data their role permits.

Disputes and governing law

Informal resolution first: If you have a dispute, contact us at northa.purpose@gmail.com and we will try to resolve it within 30 days.

Governing law: These Terms are governed by the laws of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Class action waiver: To the extent permitted by law, you agree to resolve disputes individually rather than as part of a class action. This does not apply where prohibited by law (e.g., California private attorney general claims, GDPR supervisory authority complaints).
